When COVID-19 was at its worst, it wasn’t uncommon for companies to run their businesses online as much as possible. Not only was business being done online, but more classes were offered online than were already in existence. If you have been convicted of a DUI and need to enroll in a first offender program or multiple offender program, are California online DUI schools still in effect? Is one DUI school better than another? Read on to find out.
California and Online DUI Classes
Though online DUI classes are abundantly available, not every state accepts them. Be advised, however, that even in the states that do not officially accept online DUI classes, in some cases, agency approval may be granted which would allow the online class to go forward.
Online DUI classes are not accepted by the following states:
- Wisconsin
- Washington
- Vermont
- Texas
- South Carolina
- Pennsylvania
- Oregon
- West Virginia
- Oklahoma
- North Dakota
- North Carolina
- New York
- New Hampshire
- Missouri
- Virginia
- Mississippi
- Rhode Island
- Maine
- Kentucky
- Iowa
- Georgia
- Florida
- Delaware
- Connecticut
- Colorado
- California
- Utah
- Arkansas
Remember, however, that if you get prior approval regarding the agency before registering, you may be able to have online courses for DUI accepted.
The Right DUI School
When researching an online DUI program:
- Make sure experts in the field actually developed the DUI program and it can be verified. In educational training for substance abuse, they should have a reputable background.
- See if the DUI program is accepted by the court system.
- Make sure that a 60-day guarantee is available when registering so you don’t have to pay for the program you didn’t take in the case where the courts do not accept the program.
What you should get from the program:
- A certificate of completion
- Proof of enrollment
Also, check if the school can send these verifications directly to your probation service and/or your attorney and to the court.
Your Reasons for Going Online
What’s your reasoning behind choosing a DUI program that is online versus in person? Maybe you want to have full access to the program seven days a week, 24 hours a day. At your own pace, you want to be able to complete the class successfully. That’s fine. There is something, however, that you’ll need to keep in mind. To remain compliant with the court, a specific timeframe may have been set up in which you need to complete the class. You are required to abide by their schedule.
Drinking and Driving
If you and your friends have been drinking and you get behind the wheel, you may soon find yourself in need of a California online DUI school (if approved in your case). Whatever you do, make sure you don’t add failure to complete DUI classes to your already existing problem. Get back on track. Find out about DUI prevention. Take a drug and alcohol assessment and get all your questions answered.
