Have you been ordered to complete a DUI treatment program? If so, you may be wondering about these types of programs, what they cost, etc. The following will be some information that may prove helpful if you have been ordered to complete a DUI class in California.
Important note: Please keep in mind that the information below can vary, depending on what organization you use to enroll in and complete your DUI program(s). That includes the cost. What’s more, a down payment may be required and/or a payment plan may or may not be available.
Various Programs Means Various Prices
Because more than one DUI program exists, different costs apply. Here is a basic rundown of classes and what, approximately, they may cost:
- Expect to pay between $300 and $400 for a Wet and Reckless Class (12 hours).
- Roughly $1200 can be the cost of a DUI class that runs for nine months. If a blood or breath test was refused by a first-time offender, this class will be required. Additionally, if a blood-alcohol of over .20 was the result of an eventual test, the class will be required.
- Expect to pay between $800 and $900 for the DUI class that runs for six months. If a blood test or breath test for a first-time offender comes back in the vicinity of .15 to .19, this class may be required.
- Between $1800 in $1900 is the approximate charge for an 18-month second time offender DUI class.
- Roughly $600 may be spent on the 30-hour, three-month drug and alcohol counseling and education program for first-time offenders.
Why so Many Classes?
For various offenses, specific classes or programs are required by the court system. If you had a low blood alcohol content and you are a first-time offender, you might only be required to attend a 12-hour program/class. If you’re a repeat offender, however, the class could run for 30 months! That’s a big chunk of your life.
Depending on which offense this is, the length of the program will vary. If this is your fourth, third, or second DUI offense within a 10-year period, the length of the class or program will coincide. Upon your arrest date, the “10-year time period” begins.
Additional Costs
It’s a pricey endeavor when you get behind the wheel while under the influence. There are numerous costs associated with this type of activity in addition to your court-ordered DUI program. Court costs, attorneys’ fees, fines, and more will all add to the price tag of this unfortunate occurrence. Don’t let that happen to you. Don’t drive under the influence.
