One concern many people have about online telehealth sessions is how effective it can be. If you are not in the same room as your therapist, how can a successful therapist-patient relationship be built? If your therapist is unable to read your expressions and body language, will telehealth sessions be as successful? However, these problems can be easily circumnavigated by video calls. We explain more in this article just how effective online telehealth sessions are.
It’s All in The Numbers
As online telehealth sessions become the new norm, many people have been understandably concerned about its effectiveness. As such, it did not take long for research and studies to be carried out. Studies have proven that patients reported improvements in their thoughts, emotions and behaviors after a month of telehealth sessions, the same duration as with traditional therapy. Clients also reported that they are as satisfied with their telehealth sessions as they are with in-person sessions.
Methods of Conducting Online Telehealth Sessions
While the most common method of conducting online telehealth sessions is through video chat, some clients may prefer voice only calls or text sessions for various reasons. With video calls, you are still able to see the expressions and body language of your therapist and vice versa, which facilitates better understanding. Being able to read the body language of a client is a big part of how therapists determine what is going on and how they can help. In addition, your therapist can also show you how to do simple exercises via video chat as if they were in the same room with you. Hence, online telehealth sessions can be just as effective as in-person sessions.
However, some clients may be more comfortable expressing themselves through words, whereas others may get nervous speaking in front of a camera. If you have any of these concerns, it’s best to let your therapist know in advance so together, you can devise a plan that works for you. Or if you have attended a few sessions and feel that something is not working or missing, don’t hesitate to bring it up as well. Your therapist can act on this feedback to make online sessions better for you.
Attend Online Telehealth Sessions
If you need to attend a first offender program or multiple offender program as part of your DUI/DWI sentence, you may be aware that in-person classes are temporarily unavailable and will remain that way until it is safe for centers to reopen. We are offering online telehealth sessions at Jackson-Bibby Awareness Group and strongly encourage all participants to attend and take them as seriously as they would in-person classes. Your progress does not need to be put on hold just because of the pandemic – you can continue on your path to recovery via online sessions and put yourself one step closer to completing your sentence.
If you have any questions about DUI telehealth sessions or would like to know more, please feel free to get in touch.
