In light of the ongoing pandemic, sessions from the first offender program and multiple offender program have been temporarily commuted to DUI telehealth sessions. Although it may take some getting used to, there are certain things you can do to get prepared for your telehealth sessions. We share with you some important steps in this article.

Ensure that Your Device Is Ready

This may come as a given, but ensure that your device – be it your computer, laptop, phone or tablet – is ready before the start of each telehealth session. Does it have sufficient battery power? If not, can you get plugged in for the duration of the session? As video calls can use up quite a bit of power, you do not want your device to shut down by itself in the midst of things. To this end, always ensure that a power outlet is close on hand. You will also need to check that the camera and microphone on your device are in good working condition to allow you to engage fully.

Find A Suitable Space

An airy, well-lit room where you can have some privacy is the ideal space for your DUI telehealth session. You will also want the space to have a good signal, so that your connection does not get cut off. Ensure that the space is sufficiently lit – this will make it easier for you to connect with us and other participants. If you know you will require coffee or water during the session, have them prepared beforehand so that you do not have to get up unnecessarily when the session is ongoing.

Make Yourself Comfortable

A few minutes before the DUI telehealth session is due to start, give yourself some time to get comfortable and prepared. With in-person sessions, you have the whole journey over to think through what you want to say and get yourself into the right headspace. Do not neglect this process with telehealth sessions. Giving yourself some time to stay calm and relaxed can go a long way, putting you in the best state of mind to begin the session.

Attend DUI Telehealth Sessions Diligently to Complete Your Sentence

In-person sessions may be on hold temporarily due to the pandemic, but the good news is that your progress does not need to be. DUI telehealth sessions bring you one step closer to completing your sentence and attaining sobriety. To prevent further consequences, it is important that you attend your stipulated sessions diligently and treat them as seriously as you would in-person sessions.

At Jackson-Bibby Awareness Group, we aim to resume in-person sessions as soon as it is safe to, however there is no fixed timeframe for that at the moment. All program participants are strongly encouraged to engage with their DUI telehealth sessions in the best interests of completing the terms of their sentences and avoiding more serious consequences.
